Job Description:
The Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability at the State University of New York at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2026. Expectations include, but are not limited to, teaching, research, student advisement, college service, and continuing professional development.
The Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability is home to majors in Geography and Environmental Sustainability and seeks to enhance its expertise in Environmental Health and Safety. Our current programs span a wide range of perspectives, with majors in Geography and Environmental Sustainability, minors in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, and Sustainable Planning and Development, and a micro credential in Environmental UAV applications. The department's faculty are highly collegial and deeply engaged as teachers, scholars, and mentors, fostering a collaborative and dynamic learning environment. The department is part of the School of Sciences, which includes 10 academic departments and more than 2,300 students across 20 programs, offering strong opportunities for engagement and professional growth.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Teach courses in the Geography and Environmental Sustainability majors.
Teach courses related to Environmental Health and Safety.
Teach other courses to meet department needs.
Advise students.
Conduct independent or collaborative research.
Provide service to the department and university.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
PhD in Environmental Health, Geography, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, or related discipline. ABD considered; degree conferral by the issuing institution by start of employment.
Ability to teach courses listed in duties above.
Excellent communication skills.
Preferred:
Expertise in one or more of the following:Environmental Health, Medical Geography, or related
Industrial Hygiene, Toxicology, Occupational Health and Safety, Hazardous Waste Operations and Management, Wastewater Treatment, Air Quality, Zoonotic Disease
Planning (Urban, Environmental, etc.)
Environmental Monitoring, Sustainability, & GIS
Physical Geography
Water
World Regional Geography
Teaching, Research, & Service Experience.
Experience working with diverse populations and/or teaching pedagogies and/or multicultural teaching experience.
