Description
The Associate Curator of Education and Outreach is a full-time position in the Museum’s Education Department. Directly responsible for the creation, implementation, & evaluation of educational programs for youth and adults that represent audience needs and community values. Youth programs, pre-k through 12th grade, occur both on and off-site and include community collaborations as well as virtual sessions on Zoom. Adult programs include in-gallery programming, teacher training, films, lectures, performance art, webinars, and art-making that enrich exhibit themes. Other major responsibilities include managing our scholarship programs, creating and installing community art exhibits, supporting our volunteer program, and overseeing Open Studio (an art-making space for all ages). The Associate Curator of Education and Outreach works with the Sugden Chief Curator of Education and the Assistant Curator of Education to fulfill the National Museum of Wildlife Art’s mission as an educational resource.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and directs learning programs to attract and engage visitors from around the world.
- Responsible for schools’ use of the museum and its resources; strengthens relations with area teachers and school administrators (pre-k through 12).
- Develops and manages adult education programs.
- Serves as liaison with educational organizations and community groups to build relationships and better serve underrepresented audiences.
- Ensures educational programs welcome and serve diverse audiences of all backgrounds and abilities, with a focus on accessibility, inclusion, and community relevance.
- Develops and implements collaborative outreach initiatives.
- Collaborates with marketing staff to facilitate promotion for Education Department programs and events.
- Assists with grant writing, implementation, and reporting.
- Develops and manages event, grant, and program budgets.
- When appropriate, supervises Education intern (summer) and Americorps volunteer (winter).
- Directs informal artmaking and engagement opportunities for visitors of all ages. Curates community art exhibits and works with the Programs & Events department to organize accompanying opening events—average of four per year.
- Manages the museum's audio app and assists with mobile tour development.
- Responsible for Children’s Discovery Gallery management and maintenance.
- Oversees the museum’s Open Studio.
- Develops, coordinates, and evaluates education website resources.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisorial Duties:
Supervises summer education intern and Americorps volunteers.

Requirements
Qualifications:
- This position requires 3+ years of direct experience in education program management.
- B.A. required, M.A. in Art, Education, Museum Studies, or a related field preferred.
- Experience with diverse audiences and learning situations.
- Demonstrated creativity and experience in making art accessible through participatory programs.
- Ability to keep track of details and organize large quantities of information.
- Required proficiency with Microsoft Windows/Office products or a similar operating system.
- Spanish language skills a plus.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit, reach, and kneel throughout the workday
- Ability to work at a computer for up to 8 hours daily

About the Museum:
The National Museum of Wildlife Art, founded in 1987, is a Jackson Hole museum holding more than 5,000 artworks that depict wild animals from around the world. Featuring work by prominent artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Andy Warhol, Carl Rungius, Rembrandt Bugatti, Rosa Bonheur, Eugène Delacroix, John James Audubon, and Rembrandt van Rijn, the Museum’s unsurpassed permanent collection chronicles the history of wildlife in art from 2,500 B.C.E. to the present.
In 1994, the National Museum of Wildlife Art received the Wyoming Humanities Award for exemplary efforts in fostering the humanities in Wyoming. The Museum received its designation as the “National Museum of Wildlife Art of the United States” by order of Congress in 2008. The ¾ mile-long Sculpture Trail was designed by award-winning landscape architect, Walter Hood, and completed in 2012. More than 65,000 people visit each year, and over 3,000 children take part in our school tour programming annually. Boasting a museum shop, interactive children’s gallery, onsite restaurant, and outdoor Sculpture Trail, the Museum is located two-and-a-half miles north of Jackson’s Town Square, and two miles from the gateway of Grand Teton National Park.
