Description
Assistant Medical Director (Part-Time, 0.5 FTE)
Location: Coral Gables, FL (Relocation support available)
Program: Galen Hope
Galen Hope is an innovative, integrative treatment program serving individuals with complex mental health and eating disorders. We blend psychodynamic depth work, trauma-informed care, and community integration within a compassionate, multidisciplinary team of seasoned leaders in the field.
We are seeking a Assistant Medical Director to join our leadership team in a half-time position (0.5 FTE)—ideal for a psychiatrist who wishes to complement a thriving private practice or embrace a lifestyle that values collaboration, reflection, and clinical excellence over volume.
About the Role
The Assistant Medical Director provides strategic and clinical leadership for the psychiatric and medical dimensions of Galen Hope’s care model. This role integrates medical and psychiatric care across disciplines, ensures the highest standards of safety and efficacy, and fosters a team culture grounded in relational, psychodynamic, and developmental understanding.
The ideal candidate is a thoughtful, collaborative leader who values depth of formulation, understands behavior through a developmental and psychodynamic lens, and approaches treatment from a stance of compassion, curiosity, and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and ongoing medication management for adult and/or adolescent clients.
Lead and mentor the psychiatric team, ensuring consistent, high-quality, patient-centered psychiatric care.
Integrate the medical and psychiatric care in collaboration with nursing and medical staff, ensuring holistic treatment that attends to both body and mind.
Develop and oversee behavioral protocols based on collaboration, patient strengths, and a developmental model—anchored in a deep understanding of the underlying drivers of behaviors rather than surface-level control or compliance.
Work closely with insurance payors to navigate medical necessity criteria, authorization processes, and secure single case agreements when needed to support access to care. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, case formulation meetings, and leadership discussions to guide clinical direction.
Collaborate with the executive team on program development, continuous quality improvement, and staff education.
Represent the medical leadership in communications with families, referring clinicians, and professional partners.
Demonstrated experience with complex trauma, eating disorders, and/or co-occurring conditions.
Skilled in psychodynamic, relational, and integrative treatment approaches.
Experience collaborating with insurance payors and securing single case agreements preferred.
Deep appreciation for behavioral change as a developmental and relational process.
Exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
Why Join Galen Hope
Collaborate with a nationally recognized, psychodynamically informed team with decades of thought leadership in the field.
Flexible, half-time position that complements a private practice or offers space for balance and creativity.
Relocation assistance available for the right candidate.
A culture of respect, authenticity, and clinical curiosity.
Opportunity to shape the future of integrative mental health and eating disorder treatment.
