The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM), one of the nation’s most dynamic art museums, is seeking an Associate Registrar of Exhibitions. The Associate Registrar of Exhibitions is responsible for the coordination of registration activities surrounding the Peabody Essex Museum’s exhibition program, including changing exhibitions and PEM-organized touring exhibitions. The Associate Registrar of Exhibitions supports all registration aspects of changing and traveling exhibitions from the early planning phase through implementation including the coordination of artwork loans to exhibitions. Reporting to the Registrar of Exhibitions, this position is a key member of the Registration department, working in close coordination with the exhibition registration team, the collection registrars, and the Head Registrar on department and institutional initiatives. Additionally, the Associate Registrar of Exhibitions works closely with Exhibition Planning, Preparation, Conservation, Curatorial, and Exhibition Design, participating on cross-departmental teams, collaborating with colleagues across the museum, and representing PEM with external stakeholders including lenders, partner institutions, and vendors.
Requirements
Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Art History, Museum Studies or closely related field required; completion of graduate program in one of the aforementioned fields preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required.
-Five years of experience in museum registration required; art museum experience preferred.
-Three years of experience managing loans and fine art shipping logistics for changing and touring exhibitions is required.
-Thorough knowledge of museum registration methods, standards of practice, policy, and procedures related to loans, art handling, fine arts shipping, fine arts insurance, and exhibitions.
-Understanding of international and domestic fine art shipping standards and regulations.
-Experience planning and managing exhibition installation and deinstallation schedules and logistics.
-Courier experience preferred.
-Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating loan agreements.
-Proven ability preparing and tracking budgets.
-Experience with collection management database systems and digital condition reporting.
-Collaborative and conscientious colleague who can work well in a team environment.
-Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with internal and external partners.
-Flexible and creative problem solver.
-Ability to be proactive, use independent judgment and initiative, and work well under pressure.
-Well-organized and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, Dropbox, and ability to learn new computer applications.
The hiring range for this role is $60,000 to $63,000 commensurate with experience.
