- Associate/Senior Associate
Description
Segue Sustainable Infrastructure is seeking an Associate (or Senior Associate if experience warrants) to join our team and play a key role throughout the lifecycle of Segue’s investment process. The Associate will support activities including constructing and managing investment tools, overseeing research into markets/sectors, asset due diligence, writing investment memos, supporting the deal closing process, managing/monitoring our investments, supporting our development partners, and contributing to asset monetization transactions. The Associate will have a unique opportunity to learn and add value to infrastructure projects across a variety of carbon-free technologies and energy markets, including solar PV, wind, battery storage, EV charging, clean fuels, and others.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years’ experience with a proven ability to thrive in a low-structure environment where investment, development, and monetization decisions call on one’s intuition more than an excel model. Energy finance and project development experience is a plus, but not a requirement. Candidates should be excited about the unique opportunity to join a small and dynamic firm that has an established fund, track record, and reputation. Someone who finds themselves more attracted to sustainable infrastructure, those solutions that are directly impactful and void of reliance on breakthrough innovation, would find likeminded peers and mentors at Segue. Candidates should share our values of creativity, thought leadership, a healthy work-life balance, and the value of being a generalist with a constant desire to learn and grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Investment process support: Support the investment process start-to-finish, including assessing project/portfolio risks and developer strategies, developing offer terms, supporting the negotiation process, preparing key materials and investment committee memos to contextualize risk and support key internal decisions, and other related scopes required throughout the process
- Market / technology research: Proactively conduct research into new markets and technologies, including becoming the ‘in-house expert’ where necessary
- Financial modeling: Lead/own project and investment modeling, including diligence of inputs and understanding key sensitivities
- Business development: Find new partnerships and investments for Segue through networks and other avenues
- Investment management support: Oversee and/or support the investment management process, including working with our development partners as needed and supporting the back-end functions of the business to streamline investment operations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two or more years of experience in the energy industry; finance or project development experience a plus
- Excellent research, analytical, communication skills with the ability to succinctly summarize complex financial and technical issues, mathematically, verbally, and in writing
- Comfortable being the architect of processes, not just a follower thereof; OK with situations where there’s not an obvious “answer” or best practice and being asked to propose one
- Knows what it means to take accountability/responsibility for something, and comfortable carrying burden of troubleshooting/problem-solving to achieve a result
- Ability to organize and manage workflows across different teams and individuals
- Scrutinizing eye with the capacity to work with imperfect or incomplete information
