The Role
We are seeking specialist psychiatrists who wish to pursue the Authorised Prescribers (APs) approval to deliver psychedelic-assisted therapy. Empax Centre supports eligible specialist psychiatrists to become an Authorised Prescriber (AP) of MDMA and/or psilocybin according to the stringent requirements established by the HREC and TGA and our internal clinical governance framework.
Opportunities exist in Perth, Brisbane, and Mornington Peninsula with further sites planned nationally. Psychiatrists under a moratorium may apply for the Brisbane and Mornington Peninsula roles.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Screen and determine eligibility of clients for psychedelic-assisted therapy for treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD)
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to develop individualised treatment plans for clients, ensuring comprehensive care and support throughout their therapeutic journey
- Provide pre-treatment preparation, education, and post-treatment support to clients
- Prescribe and monitor MDMA or psilocybin administration
- Attend all assigned dosing sessions and oversee client safety
- Maintain thorough and accurate records of client progress, session notes, and treatment plans in compliance with clinic policies, regulatory and legal requirements
- Provide clinical support to therapists between sessions if required
- Fulfil reporting obligations to the required governing bodies
- Attend monthly AP peer review meetings in person or virtually where practically possible
- Once experienced, provide support to other Authorised Prescribers going through the training program
- Participate in training and continuous learning to stay at the forefront of developments in psychedelic-assisted therapy and mental health care.
Training and Supervision:
Successful applicants will be required to complete our in-house training program, The Empax Way.
The next scheduled in person training dates are 20-22 March 2026 inclusive (9am - 5pm) in Melbourne CBD, with approximately 6-8 hours of online content required to be viewed prior. Further training dates in 2026 to be advised.
Empax Centre training and supervision program aligns with the RANZCP Psychedelic training framework.
Following the successful completion of the training program, the applicant will be required to shadow an Authorised Prescriber for eligibility screening assessment and one full dosing session. Additionally, applicants will participate in psychotherapy provision as part of treating dyad to complete the onboarding process. Completion of the Good Clinical Governance (GCG) training is also required.
Note: Previous experience in psychedelic-assisted therapy is not a pre-requisite; full training and supervision are provided.
Professional Requirements:
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists
- Specialist Registration with AHPRA
- Clinical experience in trauma, in particular the treatment of PTSD and TRD
- Strong clinical judgment, collaboration and communication skills
- Commitment to safe, ethical, client-centred care
- Professional indemnity insurance
