JOB SUMMARY & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES
The Camp Program Specialist is responsible for supporting onenten’s Camp OUTdoors program. Camp OUTdoors is dedicated to helping LGBTQIA+ youth develop leadership skills, work in collaborative ways, and develop a strong sense of self and community!
Under the Camp OUTdoors umbrella of programs is: (2) week long, overnight summer sessions, the Trans & Non-Binary Youth Retreat which is a 3-day program in November exclusively for trans and gender expansive youth, and the 2gether N Color Youth Retreat, a 3-day program exclusively for youth of color.
In addition, this role will help lead the OUTscouts, an adventure-based group of youth who help plan camp and meet throughout the year for outdoor trips such as backpacking, rock climbing, camping and outdoor skills training to increase their outdoor knowledge and build community.
This role requires the Camp Program Specialist to excel at working independently, perform community-based outreach, and facilitate youth-centered programs. The support of onenten youth and young adults requires the Camp Program Specialist to have experience in a positive youth development framework, a trauma informed care approach, and the ability to maintain clear and consistent boundaries.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Create and lead engaging age-appropriate activities and programs that meets the needs and interest of onenten youth through an intersectional lens.
- Support in the planning and implementation of Camp OUTdoors sessions and retreats.
- Plan and trip-lead, on average, 4 outdoor trips per year (examples; backpacking, car camping, and dispersed camping). Including logistics and safety planning, and supporting additional staff/volunteers on the trips
- Lead programs at youth center and satellite sites on behalf of Camp OUTdoors
- Deliver programs in-person or online, on average, 2 shifts per week
- Conduct regular outreach to schools, businesses, and community organizations to promote both camp volunteer opportunities and youth specific programs
- Work collaboratively with other program departments within the organization to train and evaluate partnerships as needed
- Work with Camp Manager to continually evaluate and improve Camp OUTdoors programming
- Support the growth and expansion of Camp OUTdoors & the OUTscouts.
- Enforce safe-space guidelines consistent with organizational goals/mission
- Maintain and expand camp training program library
- Support in Camp program specific data collection and entry, utilizing Campdocs, Salesforce, and other tools
- Conduct ongoing virtual and in-person outreach across the state to drive attendance to Camp
- Create and distribute outreach materials as needed using a variety of methods, including Canva, and online and in-person outreach
- Achieve specific benchmarks and annual goals related to Camp and OUTscouts programs
- Support maintenance and expansion of current Camp program offerings
- Develop and maintain relationships with schools, community leaders, and appropriate community agencies to assist with recruitment and referral services.
- Ensure appropriate boundaries, conduct, safety and development of participants
- Participate in various special events throughout the year, which may include Phoenix Pride, Rainbows Festival, holiday events, etc.

SCHEDULE: Non-exempt full-time, as needed & required by the position, including nights, and occasional weekend work
Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/DEMANDS: Standing, walking, hiking up and down hills, repetitive motions, bending, stretching, ability to sleep outside in a tent on a sleeping pad, and able to lift 40lbs without issue.
TRAVEL: Ability & willingness to drive your own reliable vehicle to travel to sites, outreach, and outdoor locations as needed. Mileage reimbursement is available.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
Significant work experience in developing camp and/or outdoor programs for youth and young adults.
Experience in developing in person and online outreach strategies to engage youth and young adults.
Strong computer skills required, including use of Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Windows Suite
2+ years of experience in developing & leading resilience-based programs for youth & young adults.
1+ year of experience leading and planning outdoor activities for groups (examples; camping, kayaking/canoeing, hiking, outdoor education, adventure education, etc.)
Good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality. Involvement and/or knowledge of the LGBTQ+ community &/or non-profit organizations preferred
Current Wilderness First Responder Certification and CPR or ability to obtain one
PREFFERED:
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
Bilingual in English and Spanish, pay differential available based on proven fluency
Proficiency in Salesforce/ CMS systems
Current Lifeguard Certification, Small Craft Safety Certification
