This is a full time, open rank, Assistant to Associate Professor position in the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine to support the growing clinical mission at the Colorado Springs, CO regional campus. We are seeking a dynamic, patient-centered, board certified/eligible pulmonologist to be a part of our expanding and dynamic program. Pulmonologist with sleep certification is a plus. Partnering closely with Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO), the Colorado Springs, CO regional campus holds a stand alone 115 bed hospital and busy outpatient clinic with 40+ specialty services provided. The hospital is a level two trauma center and the only dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department in Southern Colorado consisting of 28 Emergency Department patient care rooms, 66 critical care beds, 44 Med Surg beds, five sleep study rooms, and four OR rooms.
Key Responsibilities:
For a 1.0 FTE, eight half day clinical sessions per week consisting of:
- Pulmonary outpatient clinical care
- Sleep outpatient clinical care (if Sleep certified)
- Inpatient, consult and outpatient consultative services, weekend call coverage
- Bronchoscopies, laryngoscopies, PFTs, sleep study interpretations (if Sleep certified)
The section of Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine has 54 faculty members (to include Sr., Jr., PhD, Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant faculty) and is a multifaceted program, with on-going interests in asthma, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, cystic fibrosis, sleep medicine, the pediatric airway and medical education.

Children’s Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado’s Department of Pediatrics are ranked in the top 10 “Best Children’s Hospitals” and “Best Pediatric Programs” in Colorado by U.S. News and World Report. The Children’s Hospital in Colorado Springs has a level two pediatric trauma designation with 115 hospital beds (16 PICU, 50 NICU, and 49 medicine/ surgery). Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:
Minimum Requirements (Assistant Professor)
- DO/MD
- Board certified or board eligible in Pediatrics
- Three years of Pediatric Pulmonology fellowship
- Must be licensed or able to obtain licensure in the State of Colorado prior to start date
Minimum Requirements (Associate Professor)
- DO/MD
- Board certified or board eligible in Pediatrics
- Three years of Pediatric Pulmonology fellowship
- Must be licensed or able to obtain licensure in the State of Colorado prior to start date
- 5 years’ experience as a pediatric pulmonologist
Condition of Employment:
- Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
- Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge appropriate for individuals completing a three-year Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship
- Pediatric clinical assessment skills
- Ability to complete pediatric pulmonary diagnostics and therapeutic procedures
- Strong commitment to teaching and mentoring responsibilities
- Strong interpersonal communication skills including both written and verbal
- Exceptional time-management skills (to include managing email and other electronic forms of communication
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary group
Preferred Qualifications
- Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Pulmonology
- Board certified or board eligible in Sleep Medicine
- Prescriptive Authority
- Experience and proficiency with electronic medical health record systems
