Position Information

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience

- Ability to communicate technical content to a general audience and a variety of stakeholders.
- Experience working with business/industry, alumni engagement, and development initiatives.
- Experience in a higher education, independent school, or nonprofit environment.
- Strong skills using technology in the workplace, familiarity with content management systems and email platforms; social media competencies.
- Significant prior communications experience writing and producing publications and developing and placing stories.
Position Summary
The Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) Marketing and Communications Professional is a creative and strategic leader responsible for shaping, sharing and amplifying the stories of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences as it relates to development, donor gifts, alumni and more in support of the College's annual DAR fundraising targets and alumni engagement. This role is responsible for day-to-day management, as well as strategic planning, for Franklin's DAR including but not limited to: proposals, email and print solicitations, newsletters, events/invitations, alumni profiles, website content and more.
With a strong emphasis on development and alumni engagement, the DAR Marcom professional produces compelling written, visual, and multimedia materials to support DAR's strategic priorities including raising funds, visibility for DAR efforts and alumni engagement. The role requires a deep understanding of how to tailor messaging across channels and audiences, ensuring clarity, relevance, and engagement.
Collaboration is central to this position. This position is on the Franklin Marcom team reporting to Executive Director of Marketing and Communications and works closely with the Senior Director of Annual Giving and Alumni relations as well as with Franklin DAR (director, major gift officers, donor and alumni relations); academic departments; faculty; university partners; central development and alumni relations; and central marketing and communications. This individual serves as a strategic partner and creative resource, helping to articulate the DAR messaging and goals, and to translate them into effective communications through a variety of channels including digital and traditional marketing and communications outlets.
Strong project management skills are essential, as this position must juggle multiple priorities and deadlines while coordinating with key stakeholders to ensure projects are completed from inception to delivery. The position requires a strategic mindset, strong attention to detail, creativity, and the ability to adapt messaging to resonate with a variety of audiences. The ideal candidate, passionate about the arts and sciences, is skilled at digital and traditional marketing and a collaborative communicator who thrives in a fast-paced academic environment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, or a related field
- 2+ years professional experience in communications, digital and traditional marketing
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with strong project management
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficient with social media as well as CRM and email platforms (Gail, slate, etc.)
- Proficient graphics experience with Adobe InDesign suite and Canva.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, academic environment.
- Ability to manage projects independently.
- Ability to communicate content to a general audience and a variety of stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of audience segmentation and comprehensive communication practices.
- Demonstrated familiarity with a range of communications principles including messaging, writing, editing, graphic design, visual communications, branding, marketing, advertising, electronic communications, social media, and generative AI tools.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Execution of a comprehensive DAR strategy that supports the College's mission and strategic priorities. Includes creating engaging and high-quality content (graphics and text) and promotional materials for dissemination across digital and traditional marketing channels (e.g., solicitations, invites, websites, print, newsletters, and social media).
- The professional is responsible for creating content/event calendar and developing solicitations to generate donations
- Writing and creating graphics for alumni feature stories and alumni profiles including social media to showcase impact and achievements
- Designing and editing solicitation proposals
- Maintaining the DAR website
- Developing and sending department newsletters
- Creating materials for events (emails, social media, invitations, signage, premium materials) and more.
Percentage of time 65 Duties/Responsibilities
- Support and promote central annual giving initiatives including but not limited to Dawg Day of Giving, Dawg Day of Gratitude, Beat Week, etc.
- The role involves close collaboration and alignment with university DAR and MARCOM to ensure messaging is aligned, timely, and effective.
- Work with Department Heads and School and Institute Directors on respective newsletters.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
