Description
The Director, Meetings, Events, & Convention (MEC), leads the planning, development, and execution of a portion of NECA’s meetings and events portfolio. This position plays a key strategic and operational role in delivering high-quality, engaging, and financially sound events that align with NECA’s mission and brand.
The Director oversees the design and delivery of meeting logistics, housing, registration, sponsorship fulfillment, and VIP and speaker management. This position includes all aspects of the meeting, including administrative responsibilities and team mentorship. This role requires both independent leadership and strong collaboration across departments and with external stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Provides strategic direction and oversight for NECA’s meetings and events, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and member value.
- Demonstrates or develops the ability to effectively manage subordinates and ensures their professional development in a collaborative and positive work environment.
- Develops new program areas and/ or strategies to enhance the member experience and expand and refine NECA’s meeting portfolio.
- Participates in various industry events to gain insights on industry trends and represent NECA at key meetings and conferences.
- Utilizes NECA’s meeting history and analytics to guide future planning and event strategy.
Meeting & Event Management
- Manages, plans, and executes all logistics for assigned meetings, events, and conferences, including site selection, contract negotiation, food & beverage, A/V, registration, housing, administration, and on-site management.
- Coordinates with vendors, venues, speakers, and sponsors to deliver seamless and high-quality event experiences.
- Develops and/oversees pre- and post-event deliverables, including attendee reports, financial summaries, evaluations, and post-show analysis.
- Ensures sponsorship deliverables are fulfilled in coordination with the Exhibits & Sponsorships team lead.
- Facilitates the development and management of event websites, agendas, and marketing materials.
Financial Management
- Develops and manages detailed budgets for assigned meetings and events.
- Monitors expenses, processes invoices, manages post-conference reconciliations, and participates in departmental budget reviews.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Promotes teamwork, cooperation, and mentorship across NECA departments and the MEC team, including Marketing, Sales, Education, and Partnerships.
- Executes administrative responsibilities within the MEC department as required.
Communication & Relationship Management
- Maintains strong relationships with internal departments, vendors, venues, speakers, sponsors, and NECA chapters.
- Serves as the primary liaison for assigned meetings, ensuring clear communication and alignment across all stakeholders.
- Demonstrates professionalism and discretion in handling sensitive information.
Requirements
REQUISITE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree or a related field.
- Experience in meetings, events, or convention management, preferably within an association or nonprofit setting.
- Proven success managing both intimate and large-scale meetings and events, from concept to completion.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional and positive demeanor.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel; experience with event management systems is a plus.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Knowledge of association management and DMC experience preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This position requires approximately 30% travel.
- Hybrid or remote work arrangements are available based on department needs.
- General office environment when not traveling.
Salary Range: $110,000 - $125,000
