Description
As the largest division within Outreach & Engagement, the Museum at Texas Tech University is in a major growth phase for engagement and educational programming capacity. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Museum at Texas Tech University (in regard to the Museum’s Education Division administration and museum outreach and engagement programming) and the Vice Provost of Outreach and Engagement (in regard to faculty responsibilities and O&E programming requirements), the Director of Education and Engagement and Assistant Professor of Practice will oversee engagement programming, engaged research, and engagement partnerships associated with the Museum at Texas Tech University. The Director of Education and Engagement will submit and oversee new engaged research grants and coordinate the development of new programmatic engagement pathways with the Museum. The position leads a division that has a team of four full-time staff employees and a graduate student intern. The position will also teach four (6-week) micro-credential courses each academic year.
Major/Essential Functions:
Teaching (0.2 FTE)
Spring: 2 micro-credential (6-week) courses
Fall: 2 micro-credential (6-week) courses
o Be a mentoring and active participating resource for graduate students conducting engagement activities under the auspices of (or in collaboration with) the Museum, with the potential to also co-chair graduate students involved with the MaTTU.
Engaged Research (0.50 FTE)
o Publish engaged research and oversee engaged research partnerships of the Museum at Texas Tech University.
o Attend and present research at conferences, symposia, etc.
o Write grants focused on (and to assist) engagement efforts across the six collection/research divisions, exhibitions, and education.
Administration (0.30 FTE)
o Oversee engagement programming and partnerships of the Museum at Texas Tech University
o Oversee the Museum’s Education Division and with two direct reports: Helen DeVitt Jones Curator of Education and Museum Outreach & Engagement Liaison
o Oversees and directs strategic growth and execution of programming on behalf of the Museum at Texas Tech University.
o Serve as a resource and point of contact for TTU faculty
o Serve as a member of the Executive Director’s leadership team and as an advisor to the Executive Director. Serve on committees, working groups, and projects that the Executive Director assigns and represent the MaTTU at events.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
A terminal degree (Ed.D., Ph.D., or M.F.A.).
Four years of experience developing or managing programs or projects.
Record of scholarship commensurate with rank.
Research agenda focused on a facet of community or cultural engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
Three or more years of experience of working in a museum or cultural institution.
Three or more years of managing experiences.
Experience teaching in an online learning environment.
Active engagement in professional organizations in the field of museums and/or engaged scholarship.
Experience collaborating with community partners.
