Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with expertise in power system studies, plant electrical engineering, and/or NERC compliance to support geothermal and solar power generation facilities. This role supports both operating assets and capital projects and is ideal for engineers with strong grounding in ETAP modeling, arc flash analysis, electrical safety, and regulatory compliance.
The position may be tailored toward candidates with strengths in Power Studies Engineering, Electrical Project Engineering, or NERC Reliability Compliance, while maintaining exposure across all areas.
Primary Responsibilities
Power System Studies & Analysis
Develop and maintain electrical system models using ETAP or equivalent software.
Perform short circuit, arc flash, and protection coordination studies for new and existing facilities.
Evaluate protective device settings and Time-Current Characteristic (TCC) curves.
Prepare detailed engineering reports with findings and corrective recommendations.
Implement arc flash labeling in accordance with NFPA 70E and IEEE 1584.
Electrical Engineering & Plant Support
Support plant operations and project teams with electrical design, system evaluations, and capital improvement projects.
Design and evaluate low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems.
Prepare electrical equipment specifications and review supplier technical documentation.
Provide field engineering support during outages, commissioning, maintenance, and failure investigations.
Conduct root cause analysis for electrical equipment failures and develop corrective actions.
Develop procedures for electrical maintenance, inspection, and testing.
Compliance & Safety
Support compliance with NERC Reliability Standards applicable to Generator Owners and Generator Operators.
Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and company safety policies.
Actively enforce electrical safety practices in plant and field environments.
General
Coordinate engineering and field activities with plant management.
Travel to domestic and international power plants for data collection, studies, and field implementation.
Perform additional engineering duties and special projects as assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
5+ years of experience in power generation, utilities, renewable energy, mining, or heavy industrial environments.
Experience performing power system studies, electrical design, or plant engineering.
Proficiency with ETAP or similar power system modeling software.
Strong knowledge of electrical schematics, single-line and three-line diagrams.
Working knowledge of NEC and NFPA 70E.
Strong analytical, documentation, and technical communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple engineering tasks with minimal supervision.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel (~25% or more as required).
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience with AutoCAD.
Knowledge of IEEE standards, including IEEE 1584.
Experience modeling generators, transformers, PV systems, batteries, and protective relays.
Working knowledge of NERC compliance programs.
Experience in geothermal, solar, or renewable energy facilities.
Ability to work in active power plant environments with exposure to noise, vibration, heat, and cold.
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work at a computer for extended periods.
Ability to safely operate 4WD vehicles on highways and unpaved roads.
