Position Overview:
The Head Volleyball Coach, under the general supervision of the Dean of Athletics, independently performs and is responsible for running a safe, enthusiastic NAIA volleyball program. This position oversees all aspects of the program, including recruiting, training, competition, budget management, and academic support for student-athletes while fostering a culture of excellence both on and off the court.
Essential Functions:
Administer all phases of the NAIA volleyball program, including recruiting qualified student-athletes
Formulate the team's competitive schedule
Organize and train athletes for successful and safe competition
Keep abreast of current trends and methods by participating in clinics, workshops, etc. that contribute to professional development and self-improvement
Adhere to college, KCAC (Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference), and NAIA policies and procedures
Foster cooperative working relationships with the Dean of Athletics as well as staff, team members, and student workers associated with the program
Cooperate with other coaches in providing the optimum sports program possible under existing conditions
Prepare timely and accurate documents, including travel expense statements, itineraries, and reports
Take the initiative to provide new ideas and concepts to improve the efficiency and productivity of the athletic department
Support the athletic department's goals and philosophies
Monitor and support the academic success of student-athletes
Plan and conduct pre- and post-season conditioning and training programs
Effectively prepare, spend, and manage the budget and records for the team
Arrange team travel and meals
Approve any stipends to assistant coaches
Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the sport is conducted at all times
Coordinate visits by recruits and their families
Prepare an inventory of all equipment at the end of the season
Ensure general upkeep and protection of equipment under the jurisdiction of the program
Write an annual report at the end of the season, evaluating the program with recommendations for improvements
Carry out other related administrative duties as directed by the Dean of Athletics
Participate in team meetings, providing input and suggestions
Provide continual evaluation of processes and procedures; responsible for suggesting methods to improve area operations, efficiency, and service to both internal and external customers
Work in collaboration and cooperation with other departments and academic divisions on campus, using timely and appropriate judgment in upward communication regarding department concerns and responsibilities
Supervise student workers

Requirements
Required:
Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred)
Previous collegiate coaching experience
Knowledge of KCAC and NAIA policies and procedures
Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences, including students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, administration, and the community-at-large
Ability to handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently and be very results-oriented
Highly motivated and works well both independently and in a team environment
Functional knowledge with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office
Basic personal computer operation
Willingness to adapt to a changing technology environment (updates, security, new versions)
Ability to use multiple Internet browsers
Competent in email and document management
Flexible schedule and travel required
Regular attendance required
Preferred:
Master's degree
Demonstrated success in recruiting and developing student-athletes
Working Conditions:
Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals, but includes exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. Work outside involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Frequent conference-wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Work performed indoors is generally with ambient room temperatures, lighting, and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment and athletic facilities.

Travel:
Travel as required by team schedule, as determined by coaching staff, Dean of Athletics, Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
