Description
Job Summary
This role involves performing high-complexity molecular laboratory testing, including DNA/RNA extraction, RT-PCR, data analysis, and interpretation for various infectious disease panels. The position requires strong technical skills, adherence to laboratory policies, and the ability to support quality standards and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
Perform routine and complex molecular tests, including DNA/RNA extraction and PCR.
Review preliminary and final test results for accuracy.
Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical problems per laboratory procedures.
Maintain documentation and records in compliance with state and federal regulations for all reagents, procedures, and equipment.
Support development, evaluation, and implementation of new laboratory protocols.
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Communicate daily with physicians and other relevant parties.
Participate in educational and training activities as required.
Perform other related laboratory tasks as assigned.
Requirements
CLIA Qualification Options (42 CFR 493.1489)
Candidates must meet one of the following qualification paths:
Associate’s degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or medical laboratory technology; OR
Equivalent education with:
60 semester hours, including 24 hours in medical laboratory technology; OR
60 semester hours with 24 hours in science (6 chemistry, 6 biology, and 12 hours in any combination of chemistry, biology, medical technology);
Plus 3 months training in each specialty performing high-complexity testing or completion of an approved HHS lab training program; OR
Qualified as a technologist on or before February 28, 1992; OR
Prior to April 24, 1995: High school diploma/GED and completion of an HHS-approved laboratory training program or a 50-week military lab training course.
Preferred Qualifications
1–2 years of experience in a molecular CLIA-licensed clinical laboratory.
Medical Technologist board certification.
Ability to read and comprehend English and follow detailed instructions.
Strong communication and critical thinking skills.
Understanding of statistics and ability to think creatively under pressure.
Ability to follow safety protocols related to bloodborne pathogens and hazardous chemicals.
Ability to demonstrate competency in required diagnostic tests within 3 months of hire.

Physical Requirements
Ability to climb stairs, lift up to 35 lbs, and sit or stand for extended periods.
Ability to walk, bend, and perform tasks requiring good visual, auditory, and hand-eye coordination.
