Description
The Librarian 1 is an entry-level professional role for someone ready to bring energy, creativity, and community spirit to the library. Working with the Library Management Team and community partners, you’ll develop and deliver engaging programs, friendly services, and user-focused resources for all ages.
This generalist position supports programs and services for a variety of ages, including storytime, teen events, and adult programs, and community outreach events. You’ll help curate collections, support digital literacy, and ensure the library remains a welcoming, inclusive space.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES
The Librarian 1 plays a key role in creating an engaging, inclusive, and well-organized library experience for the community. This position combines program leadership, public service, and behind-the-scenes operations, ensuring the library remains a vibrant hub for learning, connection, and discovery.
In this role, you will:
- Plan and lead programs for all ages, from preschool storytimes and teen activities to adult learning sessions and community events.
- Bring the library into the community through outreach visits, partnerships, and events that connect people with resources and opportunities.
- Assist patrons one-on-one with research, reader’s advisory, and technology help.
- Manage the library collection by assisting with selecting, evaluating, and organizing materials.
- Contribute to library leadership by serving on committees, occasionally chairing them, and supervising Library
- Associates, including training, evaluating, and approving timesheets.
- Use data to evaluate library services and inform the creation of relevant, high interest services that are responsive to community priorities.
- Support daily operations such as opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and maintaining an orderly, accessible environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and success of the library.

Requirements
An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.
- MLS or MLIS degree required; candidates who are in their final year of a MLIS program are welcome to apply
- One year librarian experience preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of online library databases and services
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
- Able to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings and weekends
