- Life Sciences Analyst
Description
Start2 Group seeks a highly organized and motivated Life Sciences Analyst to support a life sciences prize challenge program as well as other funding and accelerator initiatives. This role is ideal for someone with a strong analytical, research, and evaluation skills, and a deep interest in biotech and therapeutics startups. The Life Sciences Analyst will focus on identifying key academic researchers, innovators, and startups, conducting scientific and commercial assessments, performing due diligence and program impact analyses, and collaborating closely with internal teams, and a large external partner.
Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts (office-based; open to other locations)

Compensation: $90,000
Key Responsibilities
- Identify key academic researchers, innovators, and startups in the biotech sector working in specific or defined therapeutic areas (which will vary by program).
- Conduct scientific analyses assessing the strength and viability of technologies, platforms, and assets.
- Evaluate early-stage biotech and therapeutic projects in targeted therapeutic areas.
- Analyze program outcomes and develop frameworks to measure performance and impact.
- Prepare detailed analytical reports, briefing materials, and recommendations for internal teams, external partners, and leadership.
- Identify emerging trends and opportunities within relevant therapeutic areas.
- Research and map key players across each defined therapeutic area, including startups, academic institutions, and industry partners.
- Support outreach strategies by identifying high-potential applicants and collaborators for programs providing funding to academic innovators and startups.
- Provide analytical insights derived from literature reviews, data analysis, and other relevant research.
- Track and analyze key program metrics and performance indicators.
- Collect and synthesize qualitative and quantitative feedback from participants and partners.
- Develop data-driven recommendations for continuous program improvement.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
Strong Scientific & Analytical Expertise
- Strong ability to identify promising biotech startups, academic projects, academic institutions, and researchers in a range of defined research areas (depending on program focus).
- Demonstrated ability to assess early-stage biotech and therapeutic projects and communicate findings clearly.
- Solid understanding of biotech product development and comfort working with complex scientific and commercial data.
- Experience supporting or evaluating biotech and therapeutic startup programs, incubators, or accelerators.
Strong Organizational & Communication Skills
- Excellent writing, presentation, and analytical reporting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple analytical workstreams simultaneously.
The Ideal Candidate
- 2+ years of experience in or around the biotech sector, with experience conducting research analysis or due diligence.
- BS or MS degree in biology, chemistry, or a related discipline.
- Familiarity with early-stage, preclinical development.
- Passion for supporting startups and helping de-risk assets and platforms.
- Professional working proficiency in English.

Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, chemistry, biotechnology, pharmacology, or a related life sciences discipline. A PhD is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in or around the biotech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences sector — ideally in research analysis, due diligence, technology transfer, or early-stage therapeutic evaluation.
Scientific Expertise:
- Solid understanding of small molecule drug development and preclinical research.
- Familiarity with antiviral therapeutics or adjacent therapeutic areas preferred.
Analytical & Research Skills:
- Proven ability to conduct scientific and commercial assessments of early-stage technologies.
- Strong skills in literature review, data interpretation, and comparative analysis.
- Experience developing structured reports and recommendations based on findings.
Communication Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to summarize complex technical information clearly for diverse audiences.
- Strong presentation and stakeholder communication abilities.
Program & Collaboration:
- Experience supporting or evaluating accelerator, funding, or innovation programs in biotech or therapeutics.
- Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams and external partners.
Additional Requirements:

- Passion for innovation, startups, and advancing therapeutic development.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
