- Membership Strategy and Growth Manager

Position Overview: The Membership Strategy and Growth Manager is primarily responsible for growing TLA’s membership base. This role leads outreach and sales efforts to attract new members, boost retention, and strengthen membership revenue. The position also represents TLA at events and presentations and partners with the marketing team to develop targeted campaigns that support sustained membership growth.
This is a highly visible position based out of our Austin office; residence in the Austin/Central Texas area is a requirement. During the first 60 days of employment, four days a week in-office are required. After the initial training period, TLA offers a hybrid work schedule with in-office work required for a minimum of two days per week. During crucial times in advance of large events such as the TLA Annual Conference, up to 5 days a week in-office may be required.
Primary Duties:
Membership Growth & Sales Strategy
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for growing membership revenue, including acquisition campaigns, institutional outreach, and targeted prospect engagement.
- Develop strategic, targeted campaigns based on statewide research data to continually improve the membership experience to retain current members.
- Identify and pursue new markets and member segments to drive growth.
- Create membership forecasts, goals, and performance metrics in collaboration with the Information and Member Services Manager.
- Regularly report on membership sales results, identifying opportunities and challenges.
Outreach, Presentations, and Recruitment
- Represent TLA at conferences, career fairs, library district meetings, and partner events with a focus on increasing membership.
- Develop and deliver presentations highlighting the value of TLA membership.
- Manage outbound campaigns (calls, emails, visits) to prospective members, lapsed members, and targeted institutions.
- Build relationships with organizational members (libraries, schools, institutions) to expand group memberships.
Collaboration with Marketing & Communications
- Partner with the marketing team to align campaigns with membership sales goals.
- Provide strategic input on promotional materials, ensuring messaging supports growth and revenue outcomes.
- Lead the strategic direction of membership-focused campaigns, while marketing staff handle creative execution, including coordination, evaluation, and refinement of renewal, acquisition and welcome campaigns.
Ambassador & Engagement Programs
- Oversee and expand TLA’s Membership Ambassador Program to leverage member advocates for recruitment.
- Analyze and implement feedback from ambassadors and volunteer leaders to improve recruitment strategies.
- Create toolkits and resources for ambassadors and staff to use in their outreach.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Track, analyze, and report membership trends, revenue performance, and campaign outcomes.
- Use data insights to recommend new initiatives, pricing strategies, or member benefits to maximize growth.
General Association Support
- Support and fully participate in all association activities as a key contributor and staff member.
- Provide responsive and courteous assistance to members and prospects, ensuring a positive impression of TLA.
- Contribute to cross-departmental initiatives as assigned.
Requirements
Who You Are:
- Bachelor’s degree in non-profit leadership, business, sales, communications, or related discipline.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in community outreach, membership development, sales, business development, or association management; experience with membership organizations highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed revenue or sales goals.
- Strong presentation skills; comfortable speaking in front of groups of all sizes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Teams, and Zoom; experience with AMS/CRM systems required (Salesforce/Nimble AMS strongly preferred).
- Ability to use data to drive decisions and create strategy.
- Willingness to travel throughout Texas for member recruitment and outreach up to 30%

This position has a target employment start date of January 5, 2026, with interviews starting in November 2025.
