Position Summary
The Behavioral Health SUD Therapist provides outpatient substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment to adults and/or adolescents enrolled in New Mexico Solutions programs. This clinician delivers individual, group, and family therapy; completes comprehensive assessments; and develops integrated treatment plans aligned with CCBHC standards. The therapist plays a key role in supporting recovery, reducing relapse risk, and helping clients build long-term stability through evidence-based, trauma-informed, culturally responsive care.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment & Treatment Planning
Conduct substance use assessments, biopsychosocial evaluations, DSM-5 diagnostic impressions, and ASAM level-of-care determinations.
Develop integrated treatment plans addressing both behavioral health and SUD needs.
Complete suicide, self-harm, and safety risk assessments as required.
Therapeutic Services
Provide individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based modalities (CBT, MI, DBT skills, relapse prevention, trauma-informed approaches, etc.).
Facilitate structured SUD or co-occurring groups focused on recovery skills, coping strategies, education, and relapse prevention.
Support clients in developing personal recovery goals, wellness strategies, and crisis/safety plans.
Care Coordination & Collaboration
Coordinate care with internal programs (case management, peer support, psychiatry) to ensure integrated services.
Communicate as appropriate with community partners such as residential treatment providers, detox centers, courts, probation officers, and primary care teams.
Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews, treatment team meetings, and staffing.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with Medicaid, state, and CCBHC standards.
Document progress notes, group notes, assessments, treatment plan updates, ASAM justifications, and discharge summaries.
Ensure compliance with confidentiality, HIPAA, and ethical practice guidelines.
Program Support & Professional Development
Participate in clinical supervision, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives.
Assist with program development, curriculum updates, and best-practice implementation for SUD and co-occurring treatment services.
Provide crisis intervention or support when needed within scope of practice.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Master's degree in human services or health-related field (including, but not limited to counseling, social work, psychology, etc.)
- Licensure/Certification:
Must possess one of the following New Mexico licenses: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LPCC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
- Any candidate whom can meet state requirements to provide clinical services within their field will be considered.
