Definition:

Conduct comprehensive plan reviews for commercial, industrial, and residential permit application submittals. Interpret codes and ordinances and coordinate permit review processes.

• Principal Duties:
          Coordinate with Chief Building Official & Assistant CBO, licensed design & construction professionals on problematic plans that may not be processed in a timely manner, in order to mediate and solve problems that may delay a plan review.
•         Provide code information that may require research or coordination with supervisor or other staff to ensure that customers receive accurate and timely answers to code queries while providing fair and consistent interpretations.
•         Conduct comprehensive plan reviews of construction documents for commercial, industrial, and residential building plans and specifications for compliance with the adopted Building Code and related codes and ordinances.
•         Instill a teamwork approach to interpret codes and ordinances and respond to a variety of questions and complaints from engineers, architects, contractors, and the public relative to code interpretations, inspection activities and building permit requirements.
•         Provide code information and concerns to building inspection staff and supervisor. Assist to train and assist other Building Services staff as time permits.
•         Work in a busy office environment with customers requesting permits in a timely manner and the ability to prioritize plan reviews to complete and maintain a variety of records, reports, documents, and correspondence related to plan review.
•         Coordinate plan review activities with other departments and with outside agencies when necessary.
•         Receive, check, and process requests for building permits. Approve building permit applications, compute and determine appropriate fees, and issue building permits as appropriate.
•         Provide consistently professional and responsive customer service.
•         Perform plan reviews using Accela and Bluebeam software.

Requirements

Any combination of experience and education equivalent to an Associate’s Degree with major course work in construction, architecture, and building inspection and at least one year of experience as a building inspector or plans examiner. Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid Colorado Driver’s License. Certification by the International Code Council as a Commercial or Residential Plans Examiner or Commercial or Residential Combination Inspector or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
