Job Description
Position Summary:
The Program & Data Specialist is a key member of the Program Team who supports our mission to build resilience through outdoor adventure. This position coordinates assessments for participants as assigned by the Program Director, regularly facilitates camps and programs, and assists in keeping LAC in line with best practice for trauma-informed healing centered programming. This position shares wellness tools for participants and staff alike. This individual has a heart that aligns with our mission and shares insight on how to improve Life Adventure Center programming.
Job duties and responsibilities:
Facilitate on-site camps and programs in all modalities as assigned by the Program Director and assist in developing innovative program curriculum and assuring high quality service including thorough pre-program briefings and post-program debriefings, providing accurate information in advance, and reviewing staff and participant feedback.
Collect data on participant experience, run statistical analysis, and create both internal and external documents sharing this information.
Train year-round staff on all aspects of assessment and evaluation and lead seasonal staff training and operation for same as needed or requested by Program Director.
Demonstrated knowledge of risk management policies, procedures, and emergency response and management plans. And ability to coordinate review of Life Adventure Center program policies through a lens of ensuring our programs are evidence-based and trauma-informed.
Empower, encourage, and celebrate participant growth in all Programs through role modeling, group facilitation, unconditional positive regard, and trauma-informed language.
Complete post-program tasks with other program staff members.
Communicate with Program Director any changes and opportunities for growth when evaluating program effectiveness, and offer suggestions for improvement.
Eagerly engage in trainings as assigned by the Program Director and pursue professional development opportunities to expand team competency and program effectiveness.
Actively participates in staff meetings, seeks out and shares ways to improve workplace communication, wellness, collaboration, and innovation.
As with all positions at LAC, this position extends beyond work as a role model to youth in our community, especially with regard to trauma-informed care, growth mindset, respect, communication, leadership and teamwork-values promoted in our programming.
Other duties as assigned.
Expectations:
Adaptive to varying schedule, as well as ability to occasionally work weekends and evenings.
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and sit or stand for extended periods in an outdoor setting.
Ability to perform hiking, biking, climbing, and paddling in extreme conditions (hot, humid, cold, rain, snow) for extended periods.
Each program team member is expected to become trained, certified, and able to facilitate all program areas at LAC. This includes: Challenge Course, Equine, Waterfront/Canoe, Trauma-Informed Practices, First Aid/CPR, Food Management, and Archery.
Data collection and analysis
Anticipated time allocation: 70% Direct Program Facilitation, 30% Administrative
Qualifications:
Experience working with youth and/or underserved populations.
Experience with data collection and analysis
Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment, and demonstration of strong facilitation and public speaking skills.
A high level of customer service, empathy, and strong interpersonal boundaries.
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Outdoor/experiential education or related field, Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field.
Position reports and will be evaluated by:
Program Director
Starting Compensation: $40,000 - $46,000 per year based on experience, skills and education. Excellent benefits include generous PTO, health insurance, 403(b) with up to 5% employer match (vested over time), flexible hours, and on office located on a spectacular 575-acre natural preserve.
