Description
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor of Operations, the Recreation Coordinator of Operations coordinates and supports the guest service and daily operations of the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center. This position provides hands-on leadership and training for employees in facility operations, guest service, and risk management.

Requirements
TYPICAL QUALIFCATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE: Thorough knowledge of recreation facility operations and risk management, departmental policies, and procedures governing recreation centers. Considerable understanding of staff supervision, hiring, training, and evaluation methods; budgeting, purchasing, and administrative recordkeeping; and customer service and public relations techniques. Working knowledge of health and safety standards related to recreation facilities, including CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency response; and proficiency in recreation management software such as RecTrac, along with standard computer applications used for scheduling, communication, and reporting.
SKILLS: Skilled in providing excellent customer service and maintaining positive community relations; communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; leading, motivating, and supporting a diverse workforce; and managing multiple projects and priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
ABILITIES: Ability to manage daily operations of a full-service recreation center; recruit, train, schedule, and supervise operations personnel; assist with budget preparation, purchasing, and financial tracking for facility operations; and develop and implement operational procedures to ensure safety, efficiency, and quality. Ability to evaluate facility utilization, facility use, staff performance and make recommendations for improvement; interpret and enforce City and departmental policies in a consistent and fair manner; and exercise sound judgment and initiative in resolving problems and making decisions. Must be able to adapt to changing priorities, facility needs, and seasonal demands; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other departments and divisions, outside agencies, and the public; and respond effectively to operational issues and emergencies.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Any combination of experience and education equivalent to the completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation management or a closely related field. Minimum of two years of supervisory experience or demonstrated skills and training in recreation facility operations and personnel management. Current certification in CPR, AED, and first aid or ability to obtain upon hire.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive.
Operations and Facility Coordination:
- Oversee facility operations, guest services, drop-in childcare, internal custodial operations, facility reservations, informal drop-in programming, and risk management.
- Take a lead role in developing, implementing, and monitoring operational standards, emergency response procedures, and customer service expectations.
- Deliver prompt and professional solutions to both external and internal customer inquiries through face-to-face, phone, and email interactions, striving to provide quality service through the development of relationships with facility users, program participants, community members, City employees, and numerous partner organizations.
- Work closely with Community Services Department and Recreation Division senior leadership to ensure there is consistency and accuracy in how policies and standard operating procedures are implemented.
Staff Supervision and Development:
- Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate guest services and childcare personnel.
- Coordinate ongoing training and professional development; conduct regular performance management discussions and evaluations to support growth and development.
- Ensure operations personnel maintain required certifications.
- Promote a positive, welcoming, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.
Finance and Administration:
- Prepare, administer, and oversee portions of the operations budget and related funds, and the development of reports and performance measure data in support of Community Services Department and Recreation Division financial goals.
- Learn to use and effectively operate recreation management software, such as RecTrac, for daily operations of the facility including account management, pass management, program registration, facility reservations, reporting, financial reconciliation, and other management functions.
- Support departmental and divisional work groups such as aquatics, athletics, fitness, youth, and older adults to improve the customer experience.
- Collaborate with other areas to support citywide events, interdepartmental projects, and facility scheduling.
- Contribute to the development of the seasonal activity guide by preparing operational descriptions and schedules; collaborate with marketing staff to promote facility and service offerings.
- Collect and analyze participation data, staff performance metrics, and incident trends to guide program development and staffing decisions.
- Administer surveys and leads focus groups to gauge member satisfaction levels, gain constructive feedback, and foster ideas.
- Performs related work as required and assigned.
