Position: Remote Avian Technician (Full-Time/Term, Several Positions)

Responsibilities: The successful candidates would be responsible for a variety of duties including conducting species-at-risk bird surveys, managing small field crews, working in remote areas of northern Manitoba and ensuring themselves and crew members follow safe work procedures.
Terms: Five-week position from late May 2025 to early July 2025
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
(Education): Graduates or students enrolled in Environmental/Biology-based programs, technical college diploma (major in Natural Resource based program) or university degree (Bachelor of Science or Environmental Science). A Master's degree in an environmental field would be considered an asset.
(Certifications) The successful candidates will be in possession of a Class 5 Driver's license and have valid First Aid/CPR training. Candidates must be willing to have criminal background check conducted for perspective clients.
Experience: Collection of environmental data, courses in ornithology, environmental sciences, and experience using Microsoft excel and word. Training in navigational aids and songbird identification through song/calls and/or observations would be an asset.
Selection Criteria (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): (1) Physically capable of hiking long distances (daily) over difficult terrain; (2) Skill in effective verbal and written communication; (3) Skill in data entry and recording information electronically; (4) Ability to deal effectively with co-workers; (5) Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; (6) Ability to make decisions and work under limited supervision; (7) Ability to function in a team environment and be an effective team member;
