Description
The Bissonnette Centre for Dermatology Research of Université de Montréal (CBRDUM), a unique initiative in the field of adult and pediatric dermatology research in Quebec, is seeking a Scientific Director.
The successful candidate will lead the scientific development of the CBRDUM while conducting its own fundamental, translational, and clinical research program in alignment with the existing research center’s main focus. The candidate will be recommended to be Chairholder of the “Chaire Innovaderm de la recherche en dermatologie de l'Université de Montréal”. The CBRDUM promotes dermatology research in both adult and pediatric populations. The position will be affiliated with either the Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM, adult medical center) or the Centre Hospitalier Sainte-Justine (CHUSJ, pediatric medical center), based on the candidate’s profile.

You will promote your field of research while actively contributing to the growth and prestige of a renowned institution. In this role, you will be expected to:
- Develop and maintain an active research program in the field of dermatology, including related fields such as inflammation, immunology, oncology, genetics, etc.
- Develop and lead the strategic plan and scientific program of the center.
- Oversee the recruitment of dermatology researchers and clinician scientists.
- Ensure student recruitment strategies for MD, PhD, and graduate programs in the field of dermatology.
- Coordinate the development of major research infrastructures, such as biobanks, databases, and the structuring and facilitation of clinical research.
- Have a clear innovative and multidisciplinary vision of fundamental, translational, and clinical research in dermatology.
- Provide the vision for the scientific events and activities.
- Participate in budget preparation.
- Promote the centre’s institutional, local, and international visibility.
- Participate in academic and extracurricular activities at the university.

- For a clinician-scientist position (MD or MD/PhD) based on the candidate’s academic rank, the Faculty will offer the possibilities of:
- an appointment at the rank of full-time professor (PTG) tenure track with a joint physician resource plans (PEM), and protected research time.
- applying for the Fonds de recherche du Québec en Santé (FRQS) award for Clinical Research Scholars
- For a professor position (PhD)

Requirements
- Hold a medical degree (MD or MD/PhD) with a medical specialization. A PhD and postdoctoral training in dermatology might also be considered.
- Have an outstanding research record and a strong publication history in the field of dermatology.
- Demonstrate the ability to mobilize academic members and foster collaboration and innovation.
- Show a strong interest in a collegial management approach, with the ability to build consensus.
- Communicate effectively and inspire collaboration.
- Have sufficient knowledge of the French language or be determined to learn it once in post through the French language learning support program offered by UdeM, under the Université de Montréal Language Policy (pdf).
or - Commit to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec.
