Description
This position will assist in the preparation of simple to moderate temporary traffic control and pavement marking plans and to assist in providing field support to construction field staff to implement the plans.
- Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:
- Learn and perform computer design software such as Bentley MicroStation (CADD), SignCAD and Geopak to produce Traffic Control and Pavement Marking Plans.
- Collects data and performs field work with assistance.
- Provides technical assistance in traffic control and pavement marking needs or application with input from higher level employees to construction inspectors and contractors in the field.
- Assists with implementing traffic control and pavement marking plans in the field.
- Operate and maintain all assigned vehicles, tools, equipment, and communications devices so that optimal performance and condition of those assets is assured, that all record logs are maintained and monitored, and all repairs are promptly requested and scheduled.

Requirements
Transportation Generalist Senior Minimum Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities (as listed in the examples of work) and must include basic/moderate understanding and field application of the MN Temporary Traffic Control Field Manual or completed the Traffic Control Overview training or Traffic Control Supervisor certification.
OR
- One year of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities AND a combination of one year of experience in any of the following areas: road maintenance, road construction, design, surveying, materials/soils, right of way, sign repair/installation and/or permits.
AND
- Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Please note: A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. Degree equivalencies include the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).
Transportation Generalist Minimum Qualifications:
- Six (6) months of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities (as listed in the examples of work) or related activities, AND six (6) months of experience in any of the following areas: road or bridge maintenance, construction, design, materials/soils, permits, signs, surveys, traffic engineering.
- Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Required for both levels:
- A valid Class D Driver’s License
AND
Math and Reading Assessment:
- Receipt of a passing score of Level 4 or higher on the Math portion of the computerized test and Level 4 or higher on the computerized Reading test. [The job offer is contingent on passing a basic math and reading test.] Applicants meeting Exam Part 1 will be contacted to test and may select a test site based on their geographic availability
