Description
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Multi-Building Engineer supports the operation, maintenance, and reliability of a portfolio of commercial office and retail properties. This role requires a higher level of technical skill and independence than a Maintenance Technician while working under the guidance of the Chief Engineer. The position focuses on advanced troubleshooting, Building Automation Systems (BAS), multi-building coordination, and proactive building operations to ensure safe, efficient, and professional property environments.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform maintenance and repairs on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, access control, and related building systems.
Independently troubleshoot and resolve complex building system issues.
Monitor and support Building Automation Systems (BAS), including alarms, schedules, and performance trends.
Monitor energy management and utility systems; maintain comprehensive records of inspections and maintenance.
Perform routine property inspections, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and reporting any necessary repairs or updates.
Coordinate and oversee third-party vendors and service providers.
Respond to building emergencies and provide first-response support when needed.
Track work orders, inspections, and maintenance activities using digital tools.
Track permits, conveyances, fire/life safety, and other municipal expirations and coordinate vendors to maintain compliance.
Support tenant service requests with a professional, customer-focused approach.
Availability for on-call rotations, after-hours emergencies, or weekend work as required.
Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures.
Participate in safety drills, emergency preparedness, and incident reporting.
Complete service reports, inspection logs, and maintenance documentation accurately and on time.
Communicate recurring issues or capital needs to the Chief Engineer or Property Manager.
Assist with preventative maintenance programs and long-term asset care strategies.
Identify and recommend repairs, upgrades, or capital improvements.
Maintain tools, equipment, and mechanical spaces in a safe and organized manner.
TENANT RELATIONS:
Develop and maintain positive relationships with office and retail tenants.
Respond promptly and professionally to service requests, questions, and concerns while coordinating access and communication related to maintenance activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
High School Diploma or GED required; technical training or certifications are a plus.
3+ years of experience in commercial building engineering or advanced facilities maintenance.
Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems and integrated building systems.
Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) is strongly preferred.
Technology savvy; comfortable using mobile devices, work order systems, and Microsoft Office.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and control schematics.
Strong communication skills and a customer-service mindset.
Ability to prioritize work independently across multiple properties.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between properties as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Regular walking, climbing stairs and ladders, and accessing mechanical spaces.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Exposure to mechanical equipment, moderate noise levels, and occasional outdoor conditions.
