Opportunities across Health New Zealand
Intellectual Disability Clinical Psychologists at Health New Zealand work in supportive and experienced multi-disciplinary teams providing specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment care to people with intellectual disabilities and co-existing mental health needs.
Your professional expertise will be utilised to guide through risk assessments, diagnoses, and to critically deliver various interventions to an intricate but fascinating group of adult patients - to support those individuals to build a meaningful life.
Depending on the vacancy, roles and responsibilities may include some or all of the following:
- Provide specialist psychological assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based treatment
- Develop person-centred care and rehabilitation plans for people with intellectual disabilities and complex needs
- Provide psychological formulation, risk assessment and intervention, including Positive Behaviour Support
- Work collaboratively with whnau/family and multidisciplinary teams
- Contribute to service development, clinical supervision, research and professional development

Salary and benefits
Salary:
- Salary range: USD ~$50,130 - $88,466 (NZD $85,000 - $150,000)
- 16-step progression scale: steps 1-5 increase automatically each year, and steps 6+ are merit-based; progression depends on performance
- Overtime and penal rates apply where relevant
- Additional compensation: Penal rates, on-call and higher duties where applicable
You'll also receive:
- paid Continuing Professional Development (CPD) time and allowance
- professional indemnity cover provided by Health NZ
- reimbursement of your professional registration and APC
- four weeks of annual leave per year
- ten days of paid sick leave
- twelve public holidays (plus time in lieu if rostered on)

What you need to work here
To work as a Clinical Psychologist - Intellectual Disability in New Zealand, you must be registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board under the clinical scope of practice. International applicants are assessed on their qualifications, supervised practice and fitness to practise.
