University Health is seeking a full-time Adult Psychiatrist to join our Emergency Department team at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. This position offers the opportunity to practice in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while caring for patients with acute and severe behavioral health needs.
The ideal candidate is a compassionate and clinically strong psychiatrist who thrives in a dynamic emergency department setting and values interdisciplinary collaboration, education, and high-quality patient care.
Position Highlights
- Full-time weekend schedule consisting of three 12-hour shifts: Saturday/Sunday/Monday
- Additional 4 hours of flexible administrative time weekly for:
- Clinical documentation completion
- Care team hand-off communication
- Meetings and in-service activities
- Academic and operational collaboration
- No on-call responsibilities outside of scheduled shifts
- Academic environment with opportunities for teaching and mentorship
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage adult patients presenting with acute psychiatric and behavioral health conditions in the emergency department
- Assess patients for diagnosis, stabilization, treatment recommendations, and appropriate next level of care
- Collaborate closely with emergency medicine physicians, psychiatric providers, nursing staff, care coordination teams, residents, fellows, and student learners
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and disposition decisions
- Complete documentation in a timely and accurate manner
- Contribute to the education of medical students, residents, fellows, and psychiatric nurse practitioner students
Qualifications
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Adult Psychiatry
- Preference for candidates with at least two years of post-graduate clinical practice experience
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced clinical environment
- Commitment to patient-centered, team-based care
