About Kinbase

Mental health care is broken, and kids are feeling this the most. Kinbase is a response to a broken system, a place where care can be different. For kids, for families, and for clinicians.  

Kinbase is a novel mental health clinic for kids and families growing in Naarm (Melbourne). We exist to empower kids and their families to experience meaningful change in their mental health. We achieve this by bringing clinicians together, because families need a team. We believe that individually we do our best and collectively we are the best.  
 
Kinbase will proudly enable psychiatrists, developmental paediatricians, psychologists, speech pathologists, and occupational therapists to deliver exemplary care to kids and their families. Kinbase occupies a purpose-designed clinic with thirteen consulting rooms, multifunction and playrooms, and a fully equipped therapy kitchen and event space, located in the heritage listed Melbourne Mail Exchange opposite Southern Cross Station.

Role Description - Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist  

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist will provide thoughtful, evidence-based psychiatric assessment and treatment for children and young people experiencing a broad range of mental health, emotional, behavioural and developmental concerns. 
 
At Kinbase, we seek to understand each young person within the context of their development, relationships, family system, culture, lived experience and strengths. The psychiatrist will work alongside young people, families, developmental paediatricians, psychologists and the broader clinical team to develop shared formulations and coordinated treatment plans. This may include diagnostic assessment, medical and psychiatric risk management, medication where appropriate, psychotherapy and ongoing multidisciplinary care. 

Key Responsibilities

Psychiatric Assessment and Formulation:  Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and neurodevelopmental assessments that consider the young person’s mental health, physical health, family system and broader context. 

Ongoing work: Develop and review individualised treatment plans in partnership with young people, families and the multidisciplinary team.

Triage support: Provide specialist psychiatric input and oversight to the Kinbase triage process. The Triage Nurse will review referrals, seeking multidisciplinary consultation, guidance on risk, urgency and complexity to ensure the most appropriate care pathway is required.  

Collaborative Care: Work closely with medical, psychological and allied health practitioners to coordinate treatment, communicate risk and maintain consistent care across the multidisciplinary team. 

Compliance: Ensure all clinical activities align with privacy, child safety and healthcare regulatory standards.

Requirements

Key Selection Criteria

• Clinical Qualifications: Fellowship of RANZCP (FRANZCP) and current AHPRA specialist registration.
• Values Alignment: A commitment to Kinbase values ensuring a person-centred approach is the priority for every family.
• Experience: Experience assessing and treating children or young people with eating disorders, including working with families and within evidence-based treatment frameworks, would be highly regarded.
• Demonstrated Track Record: Substantial experience providing psychiatric assessment, formulation, risk management and treatment for children and young people with complex mental health, neurodevelopmental and trauma-related presentations, together with strong multidisciplinary collaboration, consultation, communication and clinical leadership skills.
• Communication: Advanced ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with families during the discovery and care navigation sessions.
• Legal: Full working rights in Australia with no current restrictions to practice independently.
