Description

An exciting opportunity exists for a Consultant Psychiatrist (General Psychiatry) to join a well-established multidisciplinary private practice in the beautiful coastal community of Nelson Bay, NSW.

You will work alongside an experienced team of clinical and general psychologists, a mental health social worker, and a paediatrician, providing integrated, patient-centred care to individuals and families across the Port Stephens and Hunter regions.

With strong referral demand, a growing patient base, and limited local psychiatric services, this position offers an excellent opportunity to establish or expand a private practice in a highly sought-after lifestyle location.

About the Practice

• Psychological Assessment (incl. Autism, ADHD, Intellectual, Learning) 
• Intervention for Children and Adults
• Couples Therapy
• Paediatric Medicine

The addition of psychiatry will further strengthen our multidisciplinary model and enhance access to specialist mental health services within the region.

The Role

The successful psychiatrist will have the opportunity to develop a practice tailored to their interests while benefiting from an established referral network.

Clinical presentations may include:

Anxiety disorders
Mood disorders
ADHD
Autism spectrum disorder (where relevant to your scope of practice)
Trauma-related disorders
Bipolar disorder
Psychotic disorders
Perinatal mental health
Complex mental health presentations

You may choose to provide:

Comprehensive psychiatric assessments
Diagnostic clarification
Medication management
Ongoing psychiatric care
Collaborative care planning with psychologists and referring practitioners
Telehealth consultations

Requirements

• Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP), or eligibility for Fellowship
• Specialist Registration in Psychiatry with AHPRA
• Professional indemnity insurance
• Eligibility for Medicare provider numbers
• Commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
