The Department of Psychiatry at UMass Memorial Health is seeking a psychiatrist with demonstrated clinical expertise and leadership experience or potential in women’s mental health and integrated care. This position will provide the opportunity to be the Medical Director of a statewide program, MCPAP for Moms, which aims to build the capacity of the perinatal care community to address perinatal mental health and substance use disorders in Massachusetts. MCPAP for Moms provides training, consultation, and resources and referrals for perinatal care professionals across Massachusetts.
The position also includes the opportunity to work with the other 28 population-based statewide programs, like MCPAP for Moms, known as Perinatal Psychiatry Access Programs, in other states. This will include being involved in the National Network of Perinatal Psychiatry Access Programs, which bring together the 29 Access Programs across the US to facilitate peer-learning and quality improvement.
This will be a virtual or in-person half-time position which will be dedicated to being the Medical Director MCPAP for Moms, providing clinical consultation for MCPAP for Moms at least one day a week, and working with other Perinatal Psychiatry Access Programs. For interested candidates, we can offer additional clinical activities beyond the half-time position described above. Such activities could include provision of pharmacotherapy and administration or recommendation of other treatments such neuromodulation and psychotherapeutic treatments in collaboration with other physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, and other professionals.
The academic home for this position will be the Lifeline for Families Center in the Department of Psychiatry. Center faculty are pioneers in the fields of psychiatry, psychology, obstetrics and gynecology (Ob/Gyn), and pediatrics, leading paradigm-shifting work focused on addressing women’s mental health. Together, we have collective experience, expertise in women’s mental health and parental mental health, and deep relationships with community partners, including medical societies and policymakers. Building the capacity of nontraditional settings and developing practical approaches to address mental health as part of perinatal, infant, and child health care, no matter what door the family enters.
Creating feasible and scalable care delivery models, trainings, and tools for women and families to be supported by the professionals they present to, including MCPAP for Moms
Doing work that is scalable, replicable, evidence based and already implemented nationwide.
Creating innovative solutions that are driven by our research, the voices of community partners, and others’ research.
If of interest, the psychiatrist will be mentored to do scholarly work with the opportunities for publication and presentations. This may include the opportunity to work on existing NIH- and PCORI-funded clinical and implementation studies. Current active research in the Lifeline for Families Center includes PCORI, CDC, NIMH, SAMSHA, HRSA, and philanthropic and state-funded projects.
