DESCRIPTION:
The Medical Director directs, plans, and coordinates activities of employees engaged in medical services and advises on matters related to psychiatric services. The Medical Director also provides direct clinical care including outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management, outpatient collaborative care, and psychiatric consultations to partner organizations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Psychiatrists, Nurse Practitioners
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides outpatient psychiatric evaluation, consultation and ongoing treatment to patients via interview, observation of behaviors, gathering feedback from parent/guardian/natural support, engaging in outcome measures, reviewing medical history/related documents, and selecting, administering, and interpreting psychological tests. This also includes ordering and interpreting tests as needed
- Demonstrates understanding of relevant developmental, cultural, and family system issues consistent with the current version of the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) criteria when conducting assessments to provide accurate and concise clinical formulations, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations including the prescription of psychopharmacological agents
- Engages patient and appropriate family members and/or guardians in medication management services, including providing education as needed to support treatment planning and adherences
- Supervises patient care, diagnosis and treatment planning provided by other Medical Services staff in accordance with professional guidelines
- Reviews and authorizes treatment plans containing patient / guardian driven goals and objectives which reflect medical necessity, patient’s strengths, symptoms, and functional impairments
- Ensures service delivery is efficacious by developing methods to meet desired patient outcomes
- When necessary, provide cross-coverage to other prescribing medical staff
- Maintains interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, collaborating with other treatment team members, natural supports, guardians, and external providers to ensure wrap-around care is provided to the patient
- Functions professionally and in a manner that protects the integrity, confidentiality, and rights of all patients
- Promotes a positive work environment and culture that fosters cooperation, teamwork, professional growth and development to benefit staff, patients, families, and community partners
- Complies with all applicable federal and state statutes and regulations related to Medicaid, Medicare and any other federal or state government funded healthcare programs or private insurance programs
- Maintains appropriate documentation in the Electronic Health Record.
- Provides timely documentation on services delivered
- Maintains professional memberships, licenses, accreditation, certifications, etc.
- Provides consultative services as needed to local hospitals and other facilities in the community who have a relationship with Community Partners
- Upholds the ethical guidelines of the American Psychiatric Association and the New Hampshire Board of Medicine
- Upholds the performance standards set by Community Partners
- Participates in peer review and agency quality assurance activities
- Prepares reports, insurance claims and correspondence necessary or appropriate under these
- Oversees the success of all department personnel; hires, trains, supervises, mentors, disciplines, evaluates and oversees separation from the Agency
- Attends meetings, trainings and events as assigned
- Performs tasks, projects and other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Medical Degree required
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)
- Must obtain and maintain a medical license in the state of New Hampshire
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience as Psychiatrist
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to utilize technology provided to perform requirements of the job
- Valid driver’s license, proof of adequate automobile liability insurance and reliable transportation required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physically and mentally capable of performing multiple tasks under stressful situations
- Able to respond appropriately in crisis situations with clients
- Must be capable of recording and consuming data electronically
- Able to stand, stretch, bend, walk, lift and transport a minimum of 10 pounds
- Physically able to drive
- Able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
