The Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) and the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) are inviting applications for a position of:
Physician, Head of the General Adult Psychiatry Division with a Professor title in the field of general adult psychiatry
within de Psychiatry Department (DP)
Starting date: January 2027 or TBD
Place: Lausanne, Switzerland
The General Adult Psychiatry Division (PGE) provides general psychiatric care for adults aged 18 to 65 in the central health region of the Canton of Vaud, covering a population of approximately 350,000 inhabitants. It comprises a hospital pole and several outpatient entities. The department’s mission is twofold: providing generalist care while offering cutting-edge treatments, as well as conducting teaching and research in the major fields of adult psychiatry. At the academic level, the PGE is active in five of the six research axes of the DP and collaborates with other DP units, other departments of the CHUV (notably Imaging and Fundamental Neurosciences), as well as other national and international universities and groups.
Main missions:
- Lead the service and assume overall medical responsibility. Ensure and enhance the expertise and quality of the service’s clinical missions/activities, while developing multidisciplinary and interinstitutional collaborations and synergies in line with the CHUV’s strategic plan.
- Rally, lead, and develop high-level clinical and academic research, funded by external peer-reviewed grants and published in high-impact scientific journals.
- Coordinate undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education in the field.
- Ensure a high-quality pipeline of medical and scientific talents, strengthen the clinical and academic influence of the service both internally and externally, and collaborate with the hospitals of the Vaud Hospital Federation (FHV), in particular the Fondation de Nant and the psychiatric institutions in Romandie.
Note: As part of the structural reorganization of the DP, the scope of the Service is set to evolve and, consequently, the new leadership will be involved in this process.

Desired profile:
- Federal medical degree (or recognized MEBEKO qualification required) and MD or MD-PhD
- Title of specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy or equivalent title (ISFM or MEBEKO recognition required)
- Solid clinical experience in adult psychiatry and in one of the recognized psychotherapeutic areas.
- Proven managerial skills in leading a large team and training the next generation of medical professionals, as well as extensive experience in project management.
- Ability to set up research programs supported by externally peer-reviewed funding and confirmed academic expertise at professorial level in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Good knowledge of French (ideally LM or C1; minimum B2 with the ability to quickly acquire it)
- Proven track record of exemplary professional conduct: the selected candidate must provide full guarantees of probity and compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements of the position.
