Description
New York State Psychiatric Institute/Washington Heights Community Service, New York State Office of Mental Health, is seeking one Psychiatrist to provide inpatient care and two Psychiatrists to provide outpatient care to individuals in Northern Manhattan.
One selected candidate will be part of the care team on the Washington Heights Community Service unit, a 21-bed acute care inpatient unit providing accessible, culturally sensitive, recovery-oriented, and evidence-based treatment of the highest quality to individuals in Northern Manhattan. Duties will include but are not limited to leading and working collaboratively with interdisciplinary treatment teams; providing psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, and group therapy; providing on-call supervision to psychiatric residents; and serving on a rotating basis as the overnight and weekend attending back-up via phone.
Two selected candidates will be part of a multi-disciplinary, mission-driven team at the Inwood Clinic, a state-operated community mental health clinic at Washington Heights Community Service providing comprehensive community-based mental health service for adults with serious mental illness who live in or near Northern Manhattan. Duties will include but are not limited to conducting psychiatric evaluations, providing medication management and education, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team, and providing supervision to psychiatry residents and/or medical students.
Selected candidates will be eligible for academic appointment with Columbia University and a vast array of educational, research, and program development opportunities. Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required.

This position is eligible for a Downstate Adjustment of an additional $4,000 annual compensation.

Requirements
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program if they have:
Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.
OR
Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
